Multi-Stage Pre-Treatment & Powder Coating Shop
TS Aluminium operates an advanced electrostatic powder coating facility in our Slacks Creek workshop. Powder coating provides maximum resistance to salt spray, humidity, and intense UV exposure. Our coatings satisfy AS 3715 for architectural finishes.
Chemical Pre-Treatment & Curing Temperatures
Applying powder coatings over untreated aluminium leads to poor paint adhesion and blistering. Our process begins with a multi-stage pre-treatment wash. Extruded parts undergo acid etching, degreasing, and a chromate-free conversion coating. Once dry, dry powder paint is sprayed electrostatically and cured inside ovens at 200°C for 15 minutes to guarantee cross-linking.
"By checking chemical concentrations in our pre-treatment tanks daily, we prevent surface defects and guarantee long-term paint adhesion."
Coating Technical Specifications (AS 3715)
- Coating Dry Film Thickness (DFT): Target thickness of 60 to 80 microns, checked using calibrated digital gauges.
- Cross-Cut Adhesion Test: Class 0 rating (no paint detachment), satisfying AS 3715 standards.
- Corrosion Protection: Withstands 1,000 hours of salt spray exposure without blistering or creepage.
- Baking Temperature Profile: Automated heating sensors maintain 200°C (±5°C) to guarantee curing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Dulux Accredited powder coater?
Yes, we operate in compliance with AS 3715, utilizing Dulux and Interpon premium architectural powders with a 10-25 year warranty.
What chemical pre-treatment stages do you use?
We use a 5-stage pre-treatment wash: degreasing, acid etching, dual rinse, demineralized water rinse, and conversion coating.
What curing oven temperature do you maintain?
Our convection curing ovens maintain a stable temperature profile of 200 degrees Celsius (+/- 5 degrees) for 15-20 minutes.

Facility Operations & Pre-Treatment Standards
The Slacks Creek workshop operates under strict quality management controls. Our pre-treatment chemical washing line utilizes five consecutive baths to prepare profile surfaces before painting. First, profiles undergo acid degreasing to clean the metal, followed by two water rinses. Next, profiles pass through a chromate-free conversion bath that establishes a paint-bonding surface, followed by a final demineralized water rinse.
Chemical concentrations and pH levels inside our pre-treatment tanks are verified daily by our lab technicians. For powder coating, electrostatic spray systems apply a dry film thickness (DFT) target of 60 to 80 microns. Profiles then pass through curing ovens at 200°C for 15 minutes. High-speed temperature sensors monitor the heating profile, verifying the thermal exposure needed to guarantee polymer cross-linking.
All profile storage, bundle packing, and delivery logistics are tracked in our inventory system. Cantilever racks store raw and finished extrusions in structured rows to prevent transport scratches. Every bundle of finished profiles is labeled with its original melt audit and coating batch records, ensuring complete quality traceability.
