In-House Materials Quality Control Testing Laboratory
Quality control is central to our operations. TS Aluminium maintains a testing lab inside our Slacks Creek facility. Every batch of processed profiles is tested to guarantee compliance with Australian structural and weather-tightness codes.
Vickers Hardness Tests & Film Thickness Checks
Our lab tests raw extrusions for temper compliance using a Vickers micro-indentation hardness tester (conforming to AS/NZS 1866). For powder-coated profiles, we measure paint thickness (Dry Film Thickness DFT) and perform cross-cut adhesion tests. This ensures that coatings do not peel under Queensland's high UV exposure.
"By recording testing metrics for every production run, we provide builders with verified material compliance certificates for council approvals."
Quality Control Lab Parameters
- Hardness Testing Range: Vickers HV5 / Webster hardness checks to verify T5 and T6 temper ratings.
- DFT Coating checks: Coating dry film thickness must register between 60 and 80 microns.
- Adhesion Testing: Cross-cut grid tape pull checks (satisfying AS 3715 class 0 adhesion).
- Weather Sealing Tests: Glass joinery units are pressure tested to verify water tightness up to 450 Pa (AS 2047).

Frequently Asked Questions
What hardness testing standard do you follow?
We check temper hardness using a calibrated Vickers micro-indentation tester in compliance with AS 1866 standards.
How is powder coat thickness verified?
We measure Dry Film Thickness (DFT) using eddy-current magnetic gauges, ensuring a thickness between 60 and 80 microns.
Do you perform water leakage tests on window frames?
Yes, our test rig performs static pressure water penetration checks in compliance with AS 2047 test standards.

Facility Operations & Pre-Treatment Standards
The Slacks Creek workshop operates under strict quality management controls. Our pre-treatment chemical washing line utilizes five consecutive baths to prepare profile surfaces before painting. First, profiles undergo acid degreasing to clean the metal, followed by two water rinses. Next, profiles pass through a chromate-free conversion bath that establishes a paint-bonding surface, followed by a final demineralized water rinse.
Chemical concentrations and pH levels inside our pre-treatment tanks are verified daily by our lab technicians. For powder coating, electrostatic spray systems apply a dry film thickness (DFT) target of 60 to 80 microns. Profiles then pass through curing ovens at 200°C for 15 minutes. High-speed temperature sensors monitor the heating profile, verifying the thermal exposure needed to guarantee polymer cross-linking.
All profile storage, bundle packing, and delivery logistics are tracked in our inventory system. Cantilever racks store raw and finished extrusions in structured rows to prevent transport scratches. Every bundle of finished profiles is labeled with its original melt audit and coating batch records, ensuring complete quality traceability.
